LOUISVILLE, Ky. - There's a new restaurant coming to The Galt House Hotel and it's a piece of Louisville history being revisited. Walker's Exchange is set to debut in Downtown Louisville this fall in the hotel's West Tower. The Galt House Hotel recently opened a new restaurant concept (Walker’s Exchange) and unveiled an update to Jockey Silks Bourbon Bar. It will take the place of RIVUE Restaurant & Lounge on the 25th floor of the West Tower.

Swizzle is the name of a stick from the Quararibea Turbinata tree that was used in the 18th century to stir drinks. In 1845, it was such a popular place, it became known as Walker's Restaurant Hotel. In 1851, the restaurant moved to a new building on Third Street between Main and Market Streets and became Walker's Exchange. Walker's Exchange thrived during the 19th century as the Walker family continued to expand their mercantile and provisions business. The Walkers eventually became bourbon distributors and even created their brand of bitters. Walker’s Exchange in the Galt House is a game changer for the hotel and for dining on the Belvedere in 2020.
The $80 million, multi-year renovation includes 1,310 guest rooms, suites and residences, 53 meeting rooms, and 130,000 square feet of flexible convention space. Kendall Linhart, executive sous-chef, says the menu re-imagines classic American dishes with new and modern flavor combinations. Previously known as Rivue Restaurant & Lounge, Swizzle has 360-degree views of the city with its rotating dining rooms. Swizzle Dinner & Drinks is located on the 25th floor, overlooking the river. The planning of each of these new concepts has consumed the creative energies of teams of people working with AJS Hotels. Over half of a century later, in 1972, Galt House Hotel was reestablished by developer Al J. Schneider as part of Louisville’s Riverfront Urban Renewal Project. Carpenter by trade, he built the 25 stories high West Tower on the banks of the Ohio River. Galt House Hotel continued to expand with the creation of the East Tower in 1984.
